Members: Don Mann and his wife Donna took a trip to Asheville, NC to stay at the Biltmore Hotel and attended the Ferrari Challenge Cup Tour. They Drove down in their 1964 Apollo. Here is his note to me about the trip along with some pictures. Thanks for sharing!
Well, we made it there and back in one piece, in spite of heavy rains and curvy mountain roads. The Apollo performed very well on its first real road trip. Tom Huber did a great job on the tranny rebuild -- no problems at all!
We were only able to make part of this Ferrari Club event (and there we other non-Ferrari cars in attendance). They had several tours on Thursday and Friday through the mountains around Asheville and some of the group attended the BMW Driving School in Greer, SC (about 1 1/2 hours) on Friday. We arrived Friday night and attended the car show, tour and dinner at the Biltmore Estate on Saturday. I've attached pictures taken at our hotel, The Grove Park Inn and at the Biltmore. You'll see that one of the Back To The Future movie cars was driven up from South Carolina (I assume it drove and did not fly!).
It was a friendly group, the food was good, the hotel was really exceptional (we want to go back and just hang out at the spa!) and the whole event benefited the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which provides scholarships to children of soldiers killed in action.
